Sound Velocity Profile
SIS reads the sound velocity format in the standard .asvp (Ascii Sound Velocity Profile) or .ssp (sound speed profile) formats. The sound velocity data must be converted before it can be applied.

Sound Velocity Management
- Sound Velocity Sensor
  It is recommended to install and configure a sensor that measures sound velocity directly, near the transducers.
- Sound Velocity Profile
  SIS reads the sound velocity format in the standard .asvp (Ascii Sound Velocity Profile) or .ssp (sound speed profile) formats. The sound velocity data must be converted before it can be applied.
  - Selecting a SVP file in Runtime Parameters
    You can apply the file directly if you use a third-party application to convert the profile data.
  - SVP Editor (Web)
    This is a program to edit and convert the sound velocity profile. You must convert your sound velocity data to .asvp or .ssp before they can be used.
    - User interface
    - Defining a new filter
      You have to define a new filter for each file type you want to convert to .asvp. This is a procedure for the web version of the svp editor.
    - World Ocean Atlas (WOA)
      The World Ocean Atlas (WOA) is a collection of objectively analyzed, quality-controlled temperature, salinity, oxygen, phosphate, silicate, and nitrate measurements extracted from profile data from the World Ocean Database (WOD). It can be used to create boundary and/or initial conditions for a variety of ocean models, verify numerical simulations of the ocean, and corroborate satellite data. The temperature and salinity files may be downloaded on a different computer but must be stored on the HWS for configuration with SIS.
    - Editing and converting the SVP file - SVP Editor (Web)
      This is a procedure for the web version of the svp editor.
  - SVP Editor (legacy)
    This is a program to edit and convert the sound velocity profile. You must convert your sound velocity data to .asvp or .ssp before they can be used.
- Absorption coefficient
  The absorption coefficient of the water column is used for the gain setting in the receiver. It is important in determining the correct backscatter strength of the seafloor.
- Kongsberg Discovery SSP format
  The SSP datagram is a proprietary datagram defined by Kongsberg Discovery for transfer of a sound speed profile. The format is in ASCII and allows 9998 entries without limitations in resolution.

SVP Editor (Web)

This is a program to edit and convert the sound velocity profile. You must convert your sound velocity data to .asvp or .ssp before they can be used.

On the Tools menu, select SVP Editor (Web).

The SVP Editor allows you to bring any sound velocity data into the editor for visual inspection, modification, and to apply the profile to the system.
